Amrita Pritam was an Indian maverick writer and poet. She is considered the first eminent female Punjabi writer, novelist and poet of the 20th century. In her over 6 decades long career, she produced over hundred works, including poetry, essays, novels, biographies, etc. She was honoured with prestigious awards like the 'Sahitya Akademi,' 'Bharatiya Jnanpith,' and 'Padma Vibhushan' among many others. One of her most famous novels titled 'Pinjar' was made into a movie of the same name.
Imroz is a famous painter. He met Amrita through an artist when she was looking for someone to design the cover of her book. Trapped in a loveless marriage at a young age, Amrita Pritam dared to love - lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi at first, and artist Imroz later. While her first love remained unfulfilled, she spent the rest of her life living-in with a rather loving and caring Imroz.
