P. Lankesh (1935-2000) was one of the leading Kannada writers of post Independent India. Poet, playwright, short story writer, novelist, film maker, journalist and an activist, Lankesh has richly contributed to all the forms he has explored. Considered to be the best prose writer in modern Kannada, he has shaped the sensibilities of at least two generations of Kannada writers, and his writings continue to inspire and guide readers and writers and activists.
