A book about balancing the shark and the dolphin within you
Penguin Random House India announces the acquisition and publication of The Dolphin and the Shark: Stories on Entrepreneurship by Namita Thapar. Namita is one of India’s leading businesswomen and the Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, a fast-growing Indian multinational pharmaceutical company. She was also one of the “shark” investors on Sony TV’s popular business reality show Shark Tank India. The book is due to release in August under Penguin’s business imprint Penguin Portfolio.
The Dolphin and the Shark: Stories on Entrepreneurship is a result of Namita’s years of experience in navigating different roles in her flourishing career. From investing in start-ups, mentoring many budding women professionals to being a part of the senior team running a pharma company, this book has lessons from all facets of an entrepreneurial journey, and it is for anyone looking for drive and direction for their entrepreneurial ambitions.
Talking about the experience of writing her own book, the author, Namita, says, ‘Writing my very first book, in my own words, straight from my heart has been one of the most memorable and gratifying experiences of my life. The book is not meant to be preachy but rather full of candid stories that I hope will inspire many to push their limits!’
Namita Thapar’s debut book expounds on the concepts of the age-old aggressor leader role – the shark – and the more empathetic style of leadership which is represented by the dolphin. Sectioned to address different focus points of starting your own business with anecdotes and advice, this book will help in perfecting your pitch, planning your investment, building your network, understanding the importance of the culture of dissent, women leaders breaking barriers, and the role of mentors. Interviews with business pioneers further add value to these entrepreneurship lessons.
Radhika Marwah, Senior Commissioning Editor and Backlist Publishing Lead, Ebury Publishing & Vintage, Penguin Random House India, says, ‘Namita Thapar is a revelation. Ever since I first met her, she has surprised me with her sheer commitment to the writing process and is an enterprising and consistently inspiring force. Her book is filled with entrepreneurial stories, snippets from Shark Tank India, and astute observations from successfully helming Emcure. We’re proud to welcome her to the illustrious Penguin author family.’
Milee Ashwarya, Publisher, Ebury Publishing & Vintage, Penguin Random House India, says, ‘Entrepreneurship in India has been growing consistently, and Namita Thapar is one of the brightest stars with a fascinating story. I am delighted to have her on our list and hope she will keep on inspiring many more people to follow their dreams.’
