Quiz Yourself: How Much Do you Know about Nanotechnology?

Five Fun Facts From Reignited 2

To get you started on an incredibly fun path to a giant world of very tiny and very powerful particles, take this quick quiz on nanotechnology!

A human hair sliced into a 100 parts along its width!
Red blood cells
Viruses

Correct!

Wrong!

Nanotechnology isn’t merely about size. When certain materials are brought to nanoscale, they start to show new and unique properties, which are different from the properties that they show in bulk form.
Nanoparticles are exactly the same as the particles of the source substances-just very very small dimensions or below 10 nm size.
Microprocessors available in the market today are using sub-10 nm. This is not nanotechnology because even though the dimensions have come down to accommodate more devices, there is no real change in the properties that are attributed to quantum mechanical effects.

Correct!

Wrong!

Nanoscience has never been utilized till the past six years
Nobel Prize–winning American physicist Richard Feynman explained its usage as a science in a 1959 lecture
During the era of the Chera kings, way back in the sixth century bce, Indian metallurgists manufactured something called Seric iron (or Wootz steel which is now known to have carbon nanotube structures in them and bonds of carbon and iron.

Correct!

Wrong!

Nanoscience builds products in a bottom-up fashion. It starts with single molecules and joins them together to for a product wherein every atom is in its precisely designated location.
Nanomaterials are built by taking a chunk of material and removing small parts of it—for example, by crushing or by reacting with chemicals— until the final product (part) is achieved
The bottom up method has potentially much less material waste as leftovers and hence greatly reduces pollution.

Correct!

Wrong!

Not at all. It will be many years before we can practically use nanotechnology-based products
In medicine, targeted drug-delivery systems also use nanotechnology. Many such drugs are already available in the market and many others are under field trials.
Nano-based alternatives are also already in the market in the field of textiles. These are interesting products; if you spill coffee on your shirt, you don’t need to worry about the stain as the shirt is already coated with a nanomaterial that will not allow the coffee to stick to it.

Correct!

Wrong!
